Acting out the story…

There are delightful ways to bring this story to life with children in a home or classroom.

You can use the story as a Christmas mini-drama. With a grownup narrating, the children can dress up and act the parts. Start with the following introduction:

“In a setting full of real events and real characters, we imagine a special meeting between a lost lamb and a lion at the Bethlehem stable with the Holy Family on that First Christmas. The story is told by Lemi, the lamb who always gets lost. Now, you may be wondering, “A Lion!? In Bethlehem?” In the first century, some lions were still roaming the countryside of Israel. These lions are known as Persian, Asiatic, or Indian lions. In the Bible, David, a shepherd boy from Bethlehem, told King Saul how he had to defend his sheep from a lion.

Throughout history there are many stories of animals who show amazing instinctive responses of worship (bowing, following, etc.) upon encountering a sacred presence. So pretend with us, that a lion was the first “king,” the king of beasts, to bow before the Messiah, the King of kings.  Jesus loves the little lambs, and He loves the lions too. Enjoy our parable about the Peaceable Kingdom, that the prophet Isaiah foretold, where there are no predators or prey.  Jesus’ Christmas gift to us is the love that brings PEACE in our hearts and among us all.  With Jesus, people who feel like enemies can become friends. The little child who leads us is the Prince of Peace.”

This book presents Christ’s birth from the animal’s point of view, that of a lamb, but also of a lion. Both come together and recognize the babe as their King. A wonderful story to teach that we can be different, yet be united in our love for the Lord. I recommend this book as an excellent Christmas present. A great Christmas Eve read for bedtime! As a fellow children’s book author, I look for high quality, a great story and lively illustrations. You will find all of these qualities and much more. This book gets five stars from me!
